St. Peter's Chapel, built in a 200-year-old Dutch barn, with a painting of Kateri Tekakwitha (C, at head of alter), a 17th century Mohawk woman who the Vatican will canonize later this year, at the National Kateri Shrine in Fonda, New York. Kateri will become the first Native American saint in the Catholic church. The chapel was gradually constructed over the years and combines Native American and Christian symbols. The Six Nations Flag of the Iriquois Confederacy (C, blue flag) of which Mohawks are one of the nations, hangs from the ceiling.
