UPS China ends 2-year scam

UPS China was the victim of a scam carried out by former employees that put the shipping company out 9.8 million yuan (US$1.5 million). Five people have already been convicted of the crime, which involved a manipulation of the postage weighing system, and are awaiting sentencing. Three former UPS employees thought up the scam, and sought 15 accomplices to help them carry out the fraud. In the scam, the fraudsters weighed packages twice, first using a heavy package and then a lighter one. They collected then collected fees for the heavier package, but entered the lighter weight into the system, skimming the extra off the top for themselves.
