Jan. 4, 2012 - Toronto, Ontario, Canada - A fourth floor office.Clayton Smith, the new owner of the Flatiron building gives the Star a tour of the building. The historic building at the corners of Church, Front and Wellington was built in 1892 for $18,000 by the Gooderham family of Gooderham Worts fame..The five story structure boasts Toronto's first manually operated elevator. Even though each floor has a large safe and sometimes more than one, a tunnel existed that hat ran under Wellington to a bank that sat on the corner of Wellington and Church where a pizza shop now stands. The Gooderham family used the building until office until 1952, it was sold in 1957, it sold again in 1973 for $600,000 and received it's National Historical Site designation in 1975. In 1998 it sold again 1998 for 10.2 million and Clayton Smith recently bought it for 15 million. in Toronto. December 22, 2011.
