Soccer World Cup 1982: Germany vs. Austria 1-0

German players Horst Hrubesch (2nd from right) and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge (front, right) scramble the ball away from Austrian Reinhold Hintermaier (left) while fellow Austrian Bernd Krauss (right) watches from a distance. The German side takes an early 1-0 lead in the first half after which the game turns into a charade during the World Cup group game Germany against Austria in Gijon, Spain on 25 June 1982. Both teams continued to stage the match and harmlessly play the ball back and forth until the final whistle since a 1-0 German victory would advance both teams into the second round and eliminate Algeria from the competition. The game ended with furious protests from the 40,000 spectators and was considered to be one of the biggest scandals in World Cup history. ( automatický překlad do češtiny  ) ( zobrazit originální popisek v angličtině )
