PERU-WATER-ENVIRONMENTWorkers at Lima's largest water capturing reservoir use a net to remove debris as an initial step to prepare water from the Rimac River for human consumption on February 6, 2012. Hundreds of people from different Peruvian regions arrived in the capital February 9 after a 900 km-long march in the so called 'national march for water', protesting against the US giant Newmont's Conga mining project. The Conga project, with a programmed investment of USD 4,800 million, was interrupted by the government after Cajamarca residents protested claiming that the mining activity might affect the water basins in the region.
