Penrhyn tomb, Llandegai Church, North WalesDetail of the Penrhyn tomb in Llandegai (or Llandygai) Church, near Bangor, Caernarvonshire (now Gwynedd), North Wales. The tomb was sculpted by Richard Westmacott for the first Lord and Lady Penrhyn, who were prominent in the development of the Welsh slate industry. The statues are of a quarryman and a peasant woman, somewhat idealised in Grecian style costume, and described by Eric Hobsbawm as \'the earliest sculpted proletarians\'. There is a bas relief of cherubs splitting slates, and a long inscription below them. Early 1970s ( automatický překlad do češtiny ) ( zobrazit originální popisek v angličtině ) | ||
