People live near the water off the island of Lagos, Nigeria on Sept. 9, 2007. Nigeria is divided roughly 50/50 between a predominantly Muslim north and a largely Christian south. The desertification in the nation?s of the north and flooding in the south both drive people to the fertile center of the Middle Belt, where the two faiths meet and compete most dramatically.
