Mattel sees failure of Barbie store in Shanghai

--FILE--Young Chinese women walk past Barbie dolls on display at the Barbie flagship store in Shanghai, China, 6 March 2009. Barbie is reported to be facing the failure in its Shanghai flagship store which was opened in March 2009. The toy brand, owned by worlds biggest toymaker Mattel, failed in the execution to adjust its winning doll to the local taste. Chinese women tend to like cutesy, girlish pink clothes, just like those from Hello Kitty, which won huge success in China, not the sexy and skimpy kind. Also, opening a stand-alone store was not likely to work and appeal to locals. Most Chinese prefer to go to stores within a large mall or department store rather than walk down the streets. ( automatický překlad do češtiny  ) ( zobrazit originální popisek v angličtině )
