'Lord' George Sanger's funeral procession

'Lord' George Sanger's funeral procession

The funeral procession of 'Lord' George Sanger (1827-1911), leaving Park Farm in East Finchley, north London. Sanger was a famous circus impresario, staging spectacular shows at large venues such as Astley's Amphitheatre and the Agricultural Hall in Islington. His memoir, Seventy Years a Showman, was published in 1908. Sadly, he was killed in late November 1911 by an insane employee at his farm in East Finchley. The funeral was a grand affair, and the roads from Finchley to Holborn Viaduct Station were lined with people sheltering from the heavy rain under black umbrellas. The coffin was transferred to a special train to Margate, where he was buried in the Sanger family grave. Date: 1911 ( automatický překlad do češtiny  ) ( zobrazit originální popisek v angličtině )
