Kormoranfischen

Ein Kormoran beim Fischen/ 271011[ In remote parts of China, fishermen use cormorants to do the hard work. The birds, bred to be docile and co-operative, have rice straws tied around their necks to prevent them swallowing larger fish. They also have a string attached to their legs to ensure they return with their catch.Launching a sleek cormorant into the river, it returns to the surface with a live carp in its powerful hooked bill.British biologist and photographer Heather Angel took the pictures for her book Exploring Natural China, Heather, who has visited China 31 times, took the photographs at dawn on the Li River in Yangshuo Province. She says: With the fish safely grasped in the cormorant's bill, the fisherman dips a bamboo pole into the water for the bird to climb out. After dropping six fish into the basket, he unties the ligature so that the bird is rewarded with the next fish it catches. To prevent the birds fighting over a fish, they are released only one at a time. Heather adds: A cormorant can fish for 15 years, thereafter its eyesight deteriorates so it cannot easily identify its prey. The birds take a holiday twice a year January when the water is cold and during the summer rains when the river floods.] ( automatický překlad do češtiny  ) ( zobrazit originální popisek v angličtině )
