A man places his bid in the fish Market of Goro, Ferrara province, Italy on April 1, 2010. The auction of the fish is conducted according to an old tradition where the auctioneer recieves the offer from the clients when they whisper it in his ear, then the best offer wins. This area, between Venice and Rimini, is experiencing a small economic miracle. The reason is Ruditapes Philippinarum, the scientific name of a type of clam--dubbed the "gold" of the delta--that was imported during the 80's from Japan via England, positively effecting roughly 1,500 fishermen, half of whom are women.
