Home Hug OrphanageHIV medication sits in bottles at the Home Hug Orphanage in Yasothon. Despite suffering from a fatal cancer, Suthasinee Noi-In, or 'Mother Tiew' has been caring for Thai orphans living with AIDS/HIV since 1987 at a small orphanage she started in Thailand's north-east. UNICEF estimates that 380,000 children have been orphaned by HIV/AIDS in Thailand. Approximately 20,000 children are living with HIV/AIDS and at least one child gets the HIV virus from their mother every day. Without anti-retroviral medicine (ARVs), nearly 50 per cent of HIV-infected children die before they are five years old.
