Etiquette, hat tipping / W H Robinson

Many drivers are opposed to hat raising while driving as it involves removing a hand from the wheel. This difficulty can be overcome by cutting a small trapdoor in the roof of the car through which the hat can be brandished by means of a small lever and a piece of twine worked by the drivers foot.
