China names new CCTV chief three months after hotel fire

Chinas central government has appointed Party publicity official Jiao Li the new president of China Central Television (CCTV), according to reports on Sunday (17 May 2009). Jiao, 54, the vice-minister of the publicity department of the CPC (Communist Party of China) Central Committee, replaces Zhao Huayong, 61, who stepped down as head of the State broadcaster because he had reached the official retirement age of 60, said Xinhua News Agency.
