As millions of Christians around the world mark Easter Monday (5 April 2010), another major tradition is being observed by more than a billion Chinese. April 5th is Qingming Festival, known in English as Ancestors Day or Tomb-sweeping day, a chance to visit the graves of relatives who have passed away and tidy them up. In China, the festival was observed for hundreds of years until it was abolished in 1949 by the Communist government. It was reinstated as a public holiday in 2008.
