July 29, 2010 - Fresno, California, U.S. - Clovis, Ca 8-4-2010 - MTD JRW ROSIE THE RIVETER McCUTCHEN - Wartime photo of Hester McCutchen, in her welding coveralls, who served as one of the ''Rosie the Riveter'' female shipyard welders in the Defense supply industry during World War II. She was given full military funeral service honors Wednesday morning at the Clovis District by members of Cemetery Joint Service Honors Command. Hester McCutchen, 83, of Fresno, died Monday. Richard McCutchen, of Ypsalanti, Michigan, said his mother was very proud of her service during the war. So proud, that she carried with her not only her shipyard worker identification card to the day she died, but scars from hot metal that dropped on her body during welding construction of the ''liberty'' and ''victory'' type ships. Married to late husband John Jay McCutchen, who was already serving in the Army as an engineer four years prior to the beginning of the war, lied about her age, at 16, to enter into service, when the age limit was 18. Because of her small stature, she was put into more difficult, tight welding positions, such as on her back under the keel of a ship being built, or into one her favorite spots, working on the ''crow's nest,'' atop the main mast. Her son said she even kept track of ships she worked on. She worked in the Mare Island Naval Shipyard, in the Bay Area city of Vallejo. During the war, thousands like her took on the deadly jobs of building ships, tanks, aircraft, or making ammo to support the war effort and ''our boys over there,'' according to Richard Miller, Central California Commader of the Joint Services Honors Command. .John Walker/The Fresno Bee. ( automatický překlad do češtiny  ) ( zobrazit originální popisek v angličtině )
