THE GAY HOSHAWK. British ballad about a Scottish squire who sends letters to his love by a goshawk. He tells her that he will die for love. She tricks her father, who is against the lovers marrying, by taking a sleeping potion thus feigning death. Her body is carried to Scotland where she has agreed to be buried and on arrival she wakes and the lovers are together.
