Abdul Khalek, 12, lies in bed at a hospital, a few hours after accidentally laying on a landmine whilst working the fields of his family's property, in Chak district, Logar province, Afghanistan in May 2000. His uncle, left, and a family friend, who were the only ones close by when it happened, stand by his side and wait for the boy's parents to try to make their way to the hospital on foot.
